Borat: Diplomatic Nightmare · 15 September 2006
I love this story. Sacha Baron Cohen has single-handedly caused a massive diplomatic problem between the United States and Kazakhstan with his new film Borat.
Since the segments on the Ali G show, Cohen’s hilarious character “Borat” has become a cult icon; and has also brought the country of Kazakhstan to the wider world’s attention.
His classic catch cries like “Ah hope you laike” and “YAGSHAMERSH!” (or sometimes: “PepsiMax”) have made him an endearing and downright brilliant creation.
His new movie has premiered at the Toronto Film Festival leaving audiences in stitches. The trailers alone had me bellowing at my computer. But unfortunately the Kasakhstani government don’t seem to think it’s that funny.
YAGSHAMERSH!
