Context: The conflict in the Middle East is hotting up at a rapid pace with over a hundred people dead and hundreds more injured. As news surfaces of further killings and bombings the people of the Western world watch with interest at the events as they unfold. The only problem is, as horrible as the situation is, it's nothing out of the usual. We've all been desensitized to these sorts of things over the last decade. The only time it's actually a major concern is when it affects us in the Western world apparently.
I tried this theory out on the weekend on all sorts of different Australians. The responses I got were as follows:

They either:

1.) Didn't know what the conflict was in Lebanon

2.) Didn't CARE about the conflict in Lebanon

3.) Thought it was something to do with Cronulla

4.) Weren't able to find a connection between war in Lebanon and the price of fuel at their local Shell petrol station.

The sad truth of the matter is that this conflict is a massive and really significant moment in human history. One of the worst attacks that we'll see in our lifetimes, with neither party willing to surrender.
