Context: Corporate giant ING's real estate arm has proposed a massive development on Victoria Quay in Fremantle. (You can view the fly-overs for the development here.) The development would see a massive choping complex built on the famous harbour, "injecting more life into Fremantle" as Freo mayor Peter Tagliaferri has said.
This comes as it was reported that Fremantle has the highest unemployment rate in the metropolitan area at a whopping 12%. It's an interesting statistic, but not that surprising considering the culture in Fremantle. Personally I don't see it as such a big deal. On that note, I think that the people saying that this development will supply more jobs to the unemployed people of Fremantle is a load of turkey shit. I can't really see the unemployed Fremantelians getting into commercial retail any time soon.
