So who is Karl Pilkington?..

In short, Karl Pilkington is the funniest human alive. Whether he intends to be or not is widely debated, but regardless of this, he provides a constant source of humour, egged on by RIcky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, writers of the hit comedy series' The Office and the more recent Extras.

I first heard Karl a few of years ago, after having really sunk my teeth into the Office. A friend of mine showed me Ricky Gervais' "Politics" DVD, and I watched the bonus features. One of these included an interview, by Ricky, of Karl Pilkington.

Karl was being asked a series of questions about life, homosexuality, politics, infinity etc. One question he got particularly stuck on was the shakespeare-monkey conundrum.

a friend of mine turned me on to a radio show in London that ran from 1pm until 3pm. It was on, what Ricky and Stephen often referred to as a "tinpot radio station", also known as XFM. Karl was a radio producer at XFM, though he constantly complained about his job.. ( even though he had Mondays off.)

After listening to all of the old material online right through to the last episode they broadcast - during the Live 8 concert, I had heard so much Karl that I had withdrawals from his stupidity when they went off air. I listened to the episodes over and over on my iPod, but it just wasn't the same.

Shortly after this last episode, I received an email from the Rickygervais.com website, asking its members if they would be interested in listening to a podcast of Ricky, Stephen and Karl if they were to do one. Overwhelmingly, the response was 'hell yes' - and they have just completed a series of 12 podcasts, which has subsequently become the single most successful podcast in the history of the world. It is the number one podcast in the world, and gained this title after only 4 weeks.... It has just this week garnered a Guinness World Record for this achievement... and it wasall thanks to Karl.
