Context
: The
huge statue of John Curtin was presented to the City of Fremantle on Sunday
to co-incide with the
march through the city to celebrate 60 years since the end of World War 2. John
Curtin was elected as PM
in 1941 during the war and was in office until 1945 when he died, and was a
member for Fremantle at various
points in his career. He is an important figure in Australian history...
...apparently.
In the Fremantle Herald's 'vox pop' random street survey this week, Herald journo
Jenny D'Anger asked the
people of Fremantle (between 20 and 60 yrs old) what they thought of the statue
of
John Curtin and what they thought of him..
The overwhelming response was .... "John Who??".... sends a shiver
down your spine doesn't it?...
